Being Acclimated
As you may know, I coach a mentoring-marathon training team. On my way to practice yesterday, I saw something that just blew my mind!
To give you a taste of the affect of the fires... When I'm driving to practice, yesterday, I could hardly drive with the windows down, because wind increases and blows the soot - and microscopic ash - gets in! and I start to feel it in my throat and taste it! The air starts to smell like a chimney. I could see little white spots on my car window. (To say the least, we didn't run yesterday.) While I'm noticing the little white spots, I pulled up to a stop light, and this 4Runner pulls up next to me with all the windows down! First impression, I"m like "Whoa!, how can you have your windows down?" Then I notice that the guy driving is taking a drag, like its candy or his last, ... he's taking a drag from a cigarette...
I wanted to say, "I'm already smoking here without the cigarette!"
My after thought... Is this what it means to be a 'well-acclimated' Angeleno? -
Fires and France
Many folks have been asking about the fires and our safety.
First off, I"m safe, and most of the folks that I know. The ash in the air, the dirty-crusty-boogers, sore throat, and the gloomy ominous glow of the sky are the worst of it for my neighborhood - and most of central Los Angeles.
You can see a map of the fires here:
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-firemap,0,6179739.htmlpage?coll=la-home-center
I know my friends at Invisible Children, outside San Diego, almost had their office taken over by flames, but the Wind shifted and they were spared!
JR has some intense pictures of the fires posted on his site.
We do need to keep these communities most affected in prayer. This really is a time that indivuals and groups can loose perspective; put their trust in their surroundings, in temperal things...
I'm preparing for my second session with Pepperdine. My first one was incredible and intense! It really is a huge honor and blessing to be a part of this. My next session is in Lyon, FR - Global Leadership and OD Practice.
Sounds interesting, huh?
Well, Listen to this! I love the sound of the French... and I like the MJ, Billy Jean reference... this is from a French show, ala "American Idol"...
It's fo'real, rilly, late here... I'll keep you posted...

- It's been too TOO long...
- September is always crazy: We started the after-school mentoring program and we have 20+ runners, USC started back in session (which is a crazy busy time), and I'm reading 8 books + Articles for my first Pepperdine session which starts next week....
- Last month, I had the priveledge of having Josh and Michelle Garrels visit - Josh rocked a show at Kairos - and we had some great surf and fellowship... quite ridiculous how after a JG dry spell we just jumped right back into scratchin' each other's backs, grillin' and some serious fellowshiping - you can see pics over on their blog...
- I genuinely love soccer... I'm playing on a over 30 team (yep!) where I'm one of two white dudes... others on my team like to say that I'm "The best Mexican on the team"... I think its a compliment... (our team is very diverse... Italian, English, Valenzuela, Honduran... and yes, Mexican... who like to joke the most)
- For all my ol' Architect homies, Anderson-ites, Indianapolis music scene savvy friends - check out this article on one of my ol'friends from high school (I have memories of her rockin' 'come sail away' in the Singers club): Kate Lamont in the Herold Bullentin
also, You can check out her music at her website:
www.blueprintmusic.com - She has a show tonight! In Indianapolis...
maybe my friend IRE could do a review of the show and new album over on the coolest new music site!?!
